Have you ever noticed that the personal trainers you meet at the gym have a very satisfied inner glow? We noticed. And we asked a few trainers what it’s all about, to understand why and how they are so… content! All of them said they find a lot of satisfaction being a personal trainer. Here’s why:
Seven perks of being a personal trainer in the UK
Their job’s flexible
The flexibility of the job is a major draw card! Personal trainers can set their own hours and so are more likely to achieve the work/life/family balance that is so elusive. They avoid rush hour commutes and can take holidays when it suits them, rather than being constrained by the office calendar. They don’t have to wear boring suits or pantyhose, either – they can wear comfortable, colourful athleisure gear.
Sounds good, doesn’t it?
They live the lifestyle we’re all trying to adopt
We can all name a few friends who are trying to eat a little healthier or get to the gym with some sort of consistency. For personal trainers, these aren’t tough-to-achieve goals; these are the hallmarks of their healthy lifestyle (in fact, they’re job requirements!).
Personal trainers DO get to the gym just about every day. And they usually have a healthy diet too! They also achieve a more idyllic work/life balance, meaning that they are happier, in general, than, say, lawyers and accountants…
So many job roles and industries entail repetitive, predictable work – the kind that easily gets a little dull.
Personal trainers will tell you that no two days on the job are the same. Each client presents their trainer with a different challenge, and their needs adapt as they progress through their training programme. This means the average personal trainer is more stimulated in his job, than the average office worker.
What’s more, the trainer has a lot of freedom to pursue the work that interests him. Perhaps he has a keen interest in training elite athletes, or in injury rehabilitation – he’s free to pursue whatever he’s passionate about!
We spoke to a number of personal trainers who said that the work is truly rewarding. They help their clients achieve fitness, a great physique and wellness. They watch their clients’ self confidence blossom. And that’s really fulfilling, watching clients’ lives transformed and improved.
Many trainers will tell you, some of their dearest friends started out as clients, too!
